Academic Writing Competition (AWC)

The GSBE Student Association organised the Academic Writing Competition in Semester 2, 2009 in collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Unit (TLU) and the GSBE.

The topic for the competition was:

“Implications of the Global Financial Crisis on the Tertiary Education Sector in Australia

This was an opportunity for the students to conduct detailed research on a topic and share their research with their peers. This competition allowed the participants to test their knowledge and skills obtained from studying at the University. Helpful feedback about their papers, from Dr. Martin Davies, enabled the participants to polish their skills in information collection, critical analysis and high quality paper writing.

“I would like to thank both the GSBE Student Association and the TLU for holding and supporting this Academic Writing Competition, from which I benefited a lot. The topic for the competition was not only interesting and relevant to what I am studying, but also practical and closely related to reality. In addition, the feedback provided by Dr. Martin Davies was very beneficial for the improvement of my academic writing skills. I strongly believe that it is worthwhile to take part in this competition regardless of whether you win or not.” -Yantao Li, Master of Applied Commerce (Accounting)

The winner of the competition, Swathi Swarup, received a $200 cash prize and a certificate from the University. The runner-up was the team of Akshata Sakhardande and Jia Jia and the second runner-up was Yantao Li. Each of them received a cash prize of $50 and a certificate as well.
